Gramss / Sanjurjo / Negrón van Grieken is a near-trio whose working method is free improvisation: Sebastian Gramss (double bass), Julia Sanjurjo (voice), and Luis Negrón van Grieken (Video/Snare) meet as an open-ended collaboration rather than a fixed ensemble, returning to the same question across a series of evenings.
What we are after is not narration but an archipelago — sound and image surfacing, approaching, overlapping, and dissolving in real time. No predetermined dramaturgy; the form is found in the playing. Gramss’s bass and Sanjurjo’s voice give the improvisation its acoustic body, while the Video/Snare enters not as accompaniment but as a third voice — at once acoustic drum and luminous object, fusing sound and light. The snare’s material is processed live through granular synthesis: fragmented, decomposed, and returned as memory, disturbance, or echo — a single rhythmic impulse cascading across hearing and seeing at once.
Improvisations
- PARTICLES — studio18, Cologne, March 2024. The inaugural deployment of the Video/Snare, in a quartet with Gaunda Gottschalk. First mapping of particle systems: rhythmic impulses scattered into cascading visual and sonic fragments.
- bruitkasten — Cologne, October 2024. The collaboration concentrated to the trio — a chamber-like setting where voice, double bass, and Video/Snare carry the full weight of the dialogue.
Ongoing. Adjacent to the wider improvisation circle around Sebastian Gramss — Das Mollsche Gesetz (2023), Ad Hoc (2025).
