#127 Ad Hoc
2025 / av-concert, performance, event

Venue: Studio Orbitale Location: Cologne
AD HOC explores spontaneous musical collaboration through structured improvisation. Musicians from diverse instrumental backgrounds and traditions were invited to participate in an experimental session where duos and trios were formed using chance-based selection principles. This methodology removes preconceived hierarchies and familiar partnerships, creating unexpected sonic dialogues between voice, traditional instruments, electronic elements, and extended techniques.
The project investigates how constraint-based composition—specifically the use of aleatory processes—can generate new forms of musical discourse. By eliminating predetermined arrangements and forcing musicians to respond intuitively to unfamiliar collaborators and instrumental combinations, the performance becomes a live laboratory for exploring the boundaries between composition, improvisation, and collective creation.
Recorded at Studio Orbitale in Cologne, this session documents the intersection of chance operations with real-time musical decision-making, offering insights into how contemporary musicians navigate uncertainty and create coherent artistic statements within deliberately unpredictable frameworks.
